Eclipse House, designed by IBUKU, is a shining example of the beauty that black bamboo holds. The client for this home loved black bamboo and wished the entire structure to be built using it. Black petung bamboo has some subtle differences from its counterpart, the more common blonde petung bamboo. Generally speaking, it is slightly harder to work with, so this house was a special challenge for us that we were able to execute beautifully.
The house reaches three floors and works around a circular floor plan, which required a variety of bamboo applications to achieve a properly structured building. The ground floor utilizes beautiful local river stones for the floor, and a solid lime retaining wall, made stronger due to the circular floor plan, which also serves as the foundation for all the bamboo columns which spring up from it and become the roof.
Eclipse House is located within Green Village and is consistently considered one of its most beautiful homes. It has been featured in Elle Decor and Architectural Digest.
